Shariah-Compliant Investing: What to Expect in Our 3-Part Webinar Series

By Rahul and Jonas | 29 May 2026 | Halal Investing / Webinar | 5 min read

Rahul and Jonas are the founders of Rizq Management and help Muslims in Switzerland and the wider DACH region build wealth the halal way.

In short: In June 2026 we’re launching a three-part webinar series that gives you, over three evenings, the complete foundation for halal investing — from the Islamic principles through the permitted asset classes to your first Shariah-compliant portfolio. With Michael, one of the leading German-speaking experts in Islamic finance, and with us.

Why this webinar series — and why now

More than 6.7 million Muslims live in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Many of them earn well — but either don’t invest at all, because they’re unsure what is permitted, or they invest in products that aren’t genuinely Shariah-compliant.

This is exactly what we hear again and again in conversations: “I know I should be investing — but I don’t know where to start without making mistakes.”

This series is our answer to that. Not three generic intro sessions, but a learning journey: from zero to a real understanding that you can actually put into practice in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.

Who will guide you through the evenings

The first two sessions are led by Michael — one of the best-known German-speaking experts in Islamic finance. He has worked in the industry for decades and serves as a Shariah advisor to financial institutions. We deliberately worked with him because, for our very first webinar series, we wanted the highest possible standard of content.

The third session is led by Rahul — and that’s where it gets concrete for your situation here in DACH.

The three evenings at a glance

Session 1 — 16 June: The Foundations

Why is interest (riba) forbidden in Islam — and what does that really mean for your savings account, your mortgage and your investment portfolio? Michael explains the three core prohibitions — riba, excessive uncertainty (gharar) and gambling-like speculation (maysir) — and then shows you the craft behind it: how is a company tested for Shariah compliance? You’ll learn the two screening steps — first the business activity (no banks, no alcohol, no gambling), then the financial ratios according to the international standard. After this evening, you’ll be able to apply it yourself.

Session 2 — 23 June: The Permitted Asset Classes

An ETF is, at first, just a container — what matters is what’s inside it. The familiar standard ETFs (MSCI World, S&P 500, DAX) are not Shariah-compliant. Michael shows you:

  • Halal ETFs: How to recognise genuine halal ETFs — and which ETF has established itself as the go-to for investors in DACH
  • Individual stocks: How to screen companies yourself with the common screening apps — and why you have to repeat that every quarter
  • Sukuk: The Islamic alternative to bonds — instead of interest, you receive a share in the income of a real asset
  • Gold: The oldest halal asset class — what is clearly permitted and where scholarly opinions differ

Session 3 — 30 June: Your Portfolio for DACH

The evening many people are looking forward to most: the implementation. Which bank, which broker, which savings plan — concretely for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Rahul shows you:

  • Which platforms are actually available in your country (e.g. KT Bank as Germany’s only Islamic bank, or Trade Republic for an ETF savings plan starting at 10 euros a month)
  • What a sensible starting allocation looks like: the largest part in Shariah-screened ETFs, plus gold, sukuk and a cash reserve in an interest-free account
  • How to correctly calculate Zakat on your portfolio — the duty many people forget
  • What purification means: small, unavoidable shares of impermissible income are cleansed by giving them away as a donation

Don’t forget: Once your wealth exceeds the threshold (nisab) and has been held for one Islamic year, Zakat becomes due — 2.5% of the zakatable portion. On your investment portfolio too. In Session 3, we’ll work through the calculation together.

Who this is for

  • You’ve never invested and want to start with a solid foundation
  • You already invest but aren’t sure whether your portfolio is halal
  • You want concrete answers: which platform, which ETF, which numbers
  • You live in the DACH region and have realised that American advice doesn’t help you

The webinars are in German and assume no prior knowledge.
